He married Elizabeth Williams on 26 September 1781, in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. Philip Burr Bradley’s Connecticut state regiment from June to December 1776. Appointed a lieutenant in Sheldon’s light dragoon regiment in December 1776, Belden was promoted to captain about this time. He served in that regiment until April 1780 when the death of his only brother caused him to resign his commission in order to assist his father in managing his business (see Belden to GW, 20 April 1780, DLC:GW).
