Description: 1932 Selmer Paris Adolphe Sax Eb Baritone Saxophone No. 401 Nice Rare Silver Plated on offer. This Baritone, made after Selmer Paris bought the studio/factory of Adolphe Sax's son, incorporates many of the features of contemporary Selmer Large Bore/Super Sax baritone saxophones. The bari sax has good silver plate coverage, likely original plating-done before the original sale in the UK, and the body is relatively dent free with evidence of past bow-body repairs where the plating is worn to brass (see photos). The horn plays from low Bb to High F with newer tan leather pads with nylon domed resonators. However, a play adjust/regulation is recommended for optimal response. The horn/neck ships secure in a hard-sided, contoured case in very good physical/functional condition. Please feel free to ask any questions and thanks for looking at the listing. The following is useful background/provenance on this particular 1932 Selmer Paris/Adolphe Sax Baritone from Douglas Pipher, a noted collector and historian of Selmer Paris Saxophones (he is not affiliated with this sales listing): "Selmer Adolphe #401 is a UK-market Baritone which shipped from Selmer Paris in June 1932. It was sold to Ben Davis Music (later to become Selmer London). The original finish was a lacquer finish and the instrument was shipped fully set up, with no mention of engraving. Whether the engraving and silver-plate was done at Ben Davis, or was done later in life, I do not know. The body number (9265 X) corresponds to Selmer Paris production in the late 16,000 serial range."
