Description: For sale is a RARE and fascinating collection of items celebrating Opening Day of the 2008 Inaugural Season of Nationals Park, the Home of the Washington Nationals. The Washington Nationals baseball franchise was established in 2005 with the relocation of the former Montreal Expos to Washington, DC. (By the way, I have a separate listing dedicated to a collection of items celebrating the Inaugural Season of the team in 2005). Prior to this, Major League Baseball did not have a Washington, DC franchise since the Washington Senators were relocated to Texas in 1972. For their first three seasons, the Nationals played their home games at Robert. F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in DC. In 2006, plans got underway for construction of a new ballpark in Washington, and in March 2008, Nationals Park opened as the team's new home. The Inaugural game at Nationals Park was played on the season's Opening Night of March 30, 2008 against the division rival Atlanta Braves. I was one of the attendees of that game, which was won by the Nationals in dramatic style as Ryan Zimmerman slugged a two-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. This collection contains several items commemorating that night and the new ballpark. These include: • The Inaugural Game Program and Scorecard for Opening Night. This item is in Near Mint condition, in my estimation. I bought several of these to collect, and this one has been stored in a clear acrylic magazine cover and has never been opened for reading or keeping score. As a result, it does NOT include any scoring of the game that night. • A Completely Filled-Out Scorecard for the Opening Night Game on March 30, 2008. This is not the scorecard found inside the official game program, but a different version printed on heavy-bond (32 lb.) white paper and completely hand-scored in ink for the game in its entirety. The two letter-size pages are suitable for framing, perhaps with one or more of the other items included in this listing. • A President's Club Field Level Full Ticket to the Opening Night March 30, 2008 Inaugural Game vs. the Atlanta Braves. The seat location is in premium President's Club seating in the very first row on the field level of the ballpark, just to the Visitor's Side (the third base side) of home plate. I judge the ticket to be in Excellent/Near Mint condition, despite a very minor (approx. 1/8" round) tear and an even smaller (approx. 1/16") tear to the face of the ticket on the back side. Also, since the ticket was used for admission to the game, the ticket taker (more likely the host/hostess of the President's Club) made a small "B" mark in black ballpoint ink on the back side of the ticket. Please look carefully at the photos of the ticket to judge the condition for yourself. The ticket has been stored in a screw-down acrylic holder and displays great. It has not been professionally authenticated or graded, but companies like PSA/DNA offer such services for a fee. That service is NOT included in this sale. • Three Sales & Marketing Brochures and One Printed Article showcasing the new ballpark for existing and prospective season ticket holders, potential Suite clients, and others (media, fans, etc.). These are all professionally produced with great exterior and interior concept art of the ballpark, large seating maps, and other information regarding Nationals Park. They include: 1) A six-panel, fold-out brochure titled "Pledge Your Allegiance," with very large (two-panel) artist's illustrations of the inside of the ballpark from both the perspective of home plate looking toward center field and the perspective of center field facing home plate. Contained within the pages is detailed information on the ballpark, season ticket relocation information for existing season ticket holders, seating and ticket information for other fans, and information on party suite rentals for individual games; 2) A 24-page booklet titled "Welcome Home to Your Field of Dreams," which contains detailed information on the ballpark architectural overviews and features, premium seating, club seats, a pricing guide and seating diagram, ballpark parking and transportation, FAQs, and a Nationals Park tour video on included DVD; 3) A 30-page landscape-format booklet titled "A Monumental Opportunity: The Official Washington Nationals Ballpark Suite Guide," which contains interesting historical information on baseball in Washington and a detailed description of all types of the 66 Suites throughout Nationals Park; 4) A six-panel, fold-out brochure titled "First Base -- Building the New D.C. Major League Ballpark," produced by the joint venture construction group Clark/Hunt/Smoot. The brochure discusses the very beginning of ballpark construction, including awarding of the first major subcontracts, grants to the small & disadvantaged business community, and the bid timeline for all aspects of the D.C. Baseball Stadium projects, among other topics. Together, these materials provide a wealth of information regarding the early history of Nationals Park, baseball in Washington, DC, and the design of the new ballpark from its beginnings. The photography and illustration inside each are superb. They would make a fascinating time capsule for anyone interested in the Nationals and the history and architecture of Nationals Park. All these brochures have been preserved in flat, acrylic holders and are all in Excellent/Near Mint condition, in my estimation. These items will be carefully packed and shipped via USPS Priority Mail or via eBay's Global Shipping Program for international buyers.
