Description: James was a Toccoa Man assigned to 1st Platoon. He endured the harsh conditions, runs up mount Currahee and often brutal treatment by Sobel to the men of Easy during their time at Camp Toccoa, GA and later in England. When it came time to jump into Normandy, Jim was part of Harry Welsh’s stick #68. Jim would survive the “Three Days and Three Nights” of fighting in Normandy and make it back to England. For the jump into Holland, Jim jump as part of Carwood Lipton’s Chalk #75. He would also be an assistant gunner with Roy Cobb. He fought at “The Crossroads” near Heteren when 1st Platoon stopped the potential breakthrough of two companies of German SS troops. This is well depicted in the Band of Brothers HBO miniseries. They turned a potential disaster to not just Easy Company into a text book maneuver and demonstration of excellent leadership, training and fighting capabilities of US paratroopers. Jim would continue to serve and fight in Easy Company through the tough conditions at Bastogne, Rhineland and into southern Germany and Austria. Never too early to think about Christmas gifts.
