Seemingly the first one volume edition, following the 1872 triple-decker and the earlier appearance of some of the stories in magazines. The book is reasonably firmly bound in the publisher's dark green cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt and blind, the extremities are bumped and rubbed, there are a couple of small tears to the cloth and some minor marks, the spine is cocked. The text block is slightly toned, foxed and marked, with minor cracking at points and some dog-eared page corners. Le Fanu's most famous collection of mystery and supernatural short stories and novellas, including the celebrated and influential tale of a female vampire 'Carmilla'.
