Description: Wonderful Pair of Sheet Brass StoupsIn High Baroque Manner. Both feature high-relief repousse backplates with characterful cherub's winged heads bracketed with bold, foliate scrolls, volutes and shells beautifully modelled in heavy-gauge brass supporting D-shaped reservoir trays. Despite the thickness of the metal, the high points of nose tips and hair have been polished completely away over time, which leads me to believe these are period and date to the 17th or early 18th centuries. Each has marks and blemishes consistent with great age. One is in much better condition than the other which has a poorly soldered split to the top left-hand corner (which I'm sure could be better repaired) and a replacement reservoir tray which lacks the decorative raised band on the original.
