Try lubricating oil or solvent if a stubborn drawer is refusing to allow insertion of your shim. Purchase box, remove any contents and drawer liners.2. Pull drawers, and power wash with special attention given to the drawer slide rails.3. Clean the rails by pulling pieces of sandpaper & paper towel soaked in degreaser.4. Use a grinder with a knotted wire cup for major rust & paint removal and sandpaper for the rest.5. Drill out any rivets & replace with a number 6 nut & bolt.6. Drill out any spot welds to remove the metal drawer partitions by drilling from the underside.7. Remove any badges & handles & polish with metal finishing sandpaper8. Soak drawer slides in a bucket of degreaser & scrub with a metal scrubbing pad.9. Repair any damage to the drawer slides and ensure there are no rough spots.10. Give everything another bath to remove the grit, wipe carefully when drying and paint.11. Two coats of paint can be applied & dried in a day if fans are running.12. Fix any blemishes and steel wool any rough spots in between coats of paint.13. Reassemble, cut new drawer liner, and if a base cart, checking the caster wheels and the underside.14
