Bamboo Frame APPROX MEASUREMENTS Frame is 15 x 20" Print inside matting is 10 x 15" DESCRIPTION Geisha holding a rice bowl or plate, couldn't find one with title. Nicely framed in a bamboo style frame. These prints were done in Paris in the late 1950s. Given to me by a friend who had a lot of items from 1950 so pretty sure its authentic. Utamaro (1753 - 1806 ) Best known forhis slender and graceful bijin-ga, or "pictures of beautiful women,"Utamaro is one of the masters of Japanese woodblock printing. He is renowned for his ability to subtly capture the personality and private lives of Edo's women, from courtesans to mothers. From translation Literally, the term ukiyo means "Floating World." However, it is also a homophone (a word that is written differently but sounds the same when spoken) with the Japanese term for "Sorrowful World." In Japanese Buddhism, "sorrowful world" is shorthand for the endless cycle of rebirth, life, suffering, death, and rebirth CONDITION Frame is in very good condition, print may be yellowed from aging but in good condition also.
